Tasting notes:
Nuits-St-Georges (2007)
1er Cru "Les Damodes" Here too the nose evidences a bit of wood spice on the otherwise very fresh and if not bright then expressive nose of just crushed red and black cherry aromas that give way to rich, fuller and naturally sweet flavors that are already utterly delicious while delivering reasonably good volume as there is plenty of underlying dry extract on the sappy and long finish. There is not exceptional complexity at this early stage but that may come as there is ample underlying material. (BH) |
Echezeaux du Dessus (2011)
Grand Cru A spicy, elegant and again, very pure nose of essence of red pinot fruit, earth and underbrush complements the equally pure, supple, round and superbly detailed medium weight plus flavors that benefit from the abundant and palate soaking dry extract. There is beautiful delineation to the strikingly well-balanced finish. This is slightly lighter than I typically find it but the sense of harmony and proportion is first-rate. (BH) Echezeaux du Dessus (2012) Grand Cru A discreet but not invisible application of oak surrounds an ultra-spicy, ripe and agreeably fresh nose that is comprised by a beautiful array of black berries, plum and exotic Asian tea scents. In much the same fashion as the 2013 version the big-bodied flavors are robust, muscular and mineral-inflected before terminating a palate coating finish that goes on and on. I should point out that while this is not especially complex at present my score envisions that much more will develop. I say this not only because there is excellent underlying material but also because this wine has a fabulous track record for developing beautifully over time.(BH) |
